Inspection - Quality Control

Carnes Miller Gear is ISO 9001:2008 certified (ISO Certificate) and versed in MIL-Q-9858A and MIL-45208A.

Our quality system is integrated within our overall ERP system to ISO standards.
More important, Carnes-Miller Gear stays current with gear industry standards.

We adhere to the following gear industry standards:
  • ANSI/AGMA 2015-1-A01 (which supercedes ANSI/AGMA 2000-A88)
  • ANSI/AGMA 915-1-A02
  • ANSI/AGMA 915-2-A02
  • ANSI/AGMA 915-3-A99
Our inspection capabilities and knowledge base evaluates not only gear manufacturing, but also gear operability. We examine geometric dimensions and tolerances to determine how the gear performs in assembly. This ensures your design intent throughout the assembly process.

We can produce and inspect gear tooth modifications to include:
  • Helix
  • Profile
  • Index/Pitch deviations
  • Tip/Root relief
We utilize several tools for inspection:
  • CNC Wenzel GearTec LH87 inspecting gear specific tolerances: helix, profile, spacing, runout
  • CNC 400K Hofler Gear Grinder with on board inspection capabilities
  • A coordinate measuring machine, comparator, as well as various sunnen gages, pin wires, and jo blocks
All custom manufactured gears pass through the Wenzel (shown on left) as part of the final inspection process. The resulting reports are automatically plotted to show tolerance variation.

If requested, Carnes-Miller Gear will provide our detailed analysis with shipments - either as a printout or digital file.

Manufacturing Control Procedures
  • A gear calibration and inspection system is in place for our testing and measuring equipment.
  • Utilization of GageTrak to manage calibration and inspection requirements
  • All gear equipment is tagged and identified with the next calibration date
Naturally, we inspect all work in progress. With an average of 25 years experience working in gear manufacturing, our staff have the knowledge, experience and tradesmanship to make things right.
