Ferrous Metals
A listing of the most common types of ferrous metals in the carbon and alloy steel category include but are not limited to 1018, 1020, 4140, 4150, 4340, 8620, 9310, 1117, 1214, 1141, 1144, 1045. By far the most common is 8620, which is typically carburized and hardened, followed by 4140/4150 both annealed and pre-heat treated.
Examples of the most common place tool and nitriding steels utilized at CMG include D2, 01, 02, Nitralloy 135, and Nitralloy 135 Mod. The tool steels are typically through hardened and then ground, while the nitriding steels are typically put through the nitrowear heat treating process.
Examples of the most common stainless steels are the 300 and 400 Series, 303, 304, 416, as well as 17-4PH.
Some of the most common types of cast iron include the Ductile, Gray, and Durabar Grades.
